Asbestos Awareness Training:
A two hour event where interns get the opportunity to learn about what asbestos is, where and when it is most commonly used, how to identify asbestos and learn current management practices. Spill Prevention & Contingency Plan Training: Students attended a Spill Prevention & Contingency Plan (SPCP) training event at the Cape May National Guard facility. The purpose of this training was to educate facility personnel about potential spill sites, spill prevention techniques, documentation, and emergency spill response and safety procedures. Environmental Boot Camp Training: A four day training event at the Sea Girt National Guard Training Facility where interns have the opportunity to meet and greet Environmental Specialists from all over the country. Interns learned about state & federal compliance requirements and about the ways the NJ Army National Guard manages their facilities to meet these compliance's. Environmental Performance Assessment System Inspections & Environmental Condition of Property Inspections:
Interns attend multiple inspections in which they shadow Environmental Compliance Specialists who conduct internal audits at NJARNG facilities and properties. These inspections insure that facilities are being managed in compliance with state and federal environmental regulations. Underground Storage Tank Removal Observation: One of the NJARNG facilities were having an underground tank removed and interns were invited to come and observe its removal. While attending, students learned about UST regulations, permitting and current management practices. Contract Pre-bid & Kickoff Meetings: Interns observed several environmental contracting companies discuss the scope of work and bidding procedures for a project to be conducted at one of the NJARNG facilities. Once the contract was awarded, interns got to attend another meeting with project managers to discuss the project and how the interns can be involved in the multi-year project. Soil Sampling Observation: An opportunity for interns to observe soil remedial investigation for contamination delineation by environmental contractors. Predator Population Survey: Interns observe and aid wildlife professionals to track predator species at project sites. |
