Tait Chirenje, Ph.D. (Professor of Environmental Science and Sustainability)
Tait grew up in Zimbabwe (Southern Africa). After graduating from the University of Zimbabwe in 1993, he moved to Canada in 1994 and completed his MS at the University of Guelph (Ontario). After two horrible winters he moved south where he completed his Ph.D. in trace metal geochemistry at the University of Florida (Go Gators!). After two years as a post-doctoral research associate at the University of Florida (worked on trace element baseline concentrations in all 67 FL counties) he moved to New Jersey. He has been teaching at Stockton University since September, 2003. Tait's hobbies include eating, traveling, hiking, partner dancing (salsa, bachata, etc). Ethan Freeman
Born and raised in the South Jersey city of Vineland, Ethan has always had an appreciation for nature. After getting his AS in Chemistry from Cumberland County College, now Rowen College of South Jersey, he went on to earn a B.S. in Environmental Science with a concentration in soils and hydrology from Stockton University. At Stockton University, he discovered his passion for Soil Judging, leading to the founding of the Stockton University Soil Judging Club. During summers at Stockton, he helped with research on Great Gull Island, studying & assisting in the rehabilitation of the population of common & roseate terns. He spent most of his time, however, working as an intern for the Stockton University Environmental Internship Program, the program which he now advises. In his current role as the Program Advisor, Ethan manages a team of 4-11 interns to complete environmental related projects for the NJ Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. These projects provide opportunities for students to receive real-world career-building experience and on-the-job training in environmental concentrations such as pollution prevention, remediation, conservation, regulation, wildlife, sustainability, and other environmental topics. Ethan is currently working on his M.S. in Coastal Zone Management and hopes to eventually get his Ph.D. abroad. |
Megan Meg grew up in Glen Rock, NJ. She is studying environmental science with a concentration in environmental quality in addition to getting her energy certificate. She hopes to work in both the environmental and sustainability field by evaluating the environmental impacts of sustainable efforts to make them better. She studied in Costa Rica in 2022 and hopes to study or work all over the world. She currently plays for Stockton Women’s Lacrosse team. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, drawing, playing different sports, spending time with her family, and scuba diving. |
Ryan
Ryan has attended Stockton University since the Fall of 2022, he is currently working toward a BS in environmental science. As of Fall 2023 Ryan will begin his senior year and plans to graduate the following semester. Ryan grew up in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, and attributes his passion for the environment and nature to the time he spent visiting the nearby Watchung Reservation growing up. That passion has led Ryan to college where he aims to create a career in the field of environmental science. In his free time Ryan enjoys hiking, spending time with friends, and playing ice hockey. |
Bree
Bree was born in South Bend, Indiana, and raised in Southwest Michigan (Marshall). They are a non-traditional dual major student with majors in Environmental Studies and Languages and Culture Studies, as well as concentrations in Wildlife and Spanish at Stockton University, where they are also the Spanish tutor for the Languages Program. After being diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2021, their life underwent some drastic changes. They decided to switch career paths and go into the environmental field after rediscovering their love for the outdoors while taking up birding and hiking. They would like to work as a naturalist or naturalist educator in conservation education, with their primary interest and focus being ornithology. In their spare time, they enjoy birding, nature photography, hiking, and discovering + enjoying all that this earth has to offer. |
Anna
Anna earned her AS from Ocean County College in the summer of 2022. She transferred to Stockton the following fall semester seeking a BS in Environmental Science with a concentration in soil science and hydrology and a minor in Geology. Anna grew up in Jackson and in Neptune, always being by the forest or ocean she has always had a passion for being outdoors and learning how different ecosystems function. She is heading into the end of her junior year as of fall 2023 and is projected to graduate fall of 2024. Anna in her free time enjoys hiking, gardening, foraging, listening to music, and being outside as much as possible. (No Picture Yet) |
Justin
Justin is from Red Bank, NJ in Monmouth county. Chasing after a bachelors degree in environmental studies, he hopes to one day work with wildlife through rehabilitation or education. A gamer always interested in animals, space, and prehistory from a young age; Justin has a love for Earth’s past and the life on it (Especially dinosaurs… a lot of dinosaurs). |
Mia
Mia is from Wildwood Crest, New Jersey and has been at Stockton University since the Fall of 2022. Her plan is to graduate in the Spring of 2025 and continue her education after undergrad. She is studying Environmental Science with a concentration in Environmental Quality with goals to work in environmental consulting. Growing up next to the Jersey Shore, she was introduced to beach clean ups at an early age, where she formed a passion for reducing pollution and chemical pollution. She currently is a member of the Women’s Soccer team and her hobbies include photography, painting, and walking around the local nature trails of Cape May County. |
Riley
Riley grew up in Woodstown, NJ. She started college at Stony Brook University, and later transferred to Stockton University in the Fall of 2022. Her plan is to graduate in Spring of 2024 with a bachelors degree in Environmental Studies. Riley has always had a passion for animals and learning how she can do her part in improving the state the environment. In her free time she enjoys hiking, reading, and spending time with friends. |
